Doris was the Assistant Programs Manager at PBEC (where I worked from October 1998 to February 2003). We actually "discovered" her when she volunteered, through Hawaii Pacific University, to work at our big international conference in March 2000. She was hands down the most industrious and professional student assistants we had there, and we knew we had to "take her home with us." She came aboard as an intern, and eventually evolved into a full-time staffer.

She is originally from Singapore, and was an invaluable cultural consultant before our meeting there in November.

We were all invited to her small wedding ceremony in July (when she went from being Ms. Lum to Mrs. Lam). On September 14, she began her maternity leave. And at 11:54 a.m. on September 23, 2001, she gave birth to her daughter, Carmen Lam Kar Mun Lum, who weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.

In November 2001, she returned to the office, but in October 2002 — the same month we finally got a new boss — she left for greener pastures as a state employee... which is an interesting commentary, to be sure.

Vitals:

Birthdate unknown. Graduated from Hawaii Pacific University in Spring 2001.
