Bre worked as a research intern at PBEC (where I worked from October 1998 to February 2003). She's actually a rare and treasured breed, rejoining us in January 2002 after having worked with us before — almost two years ago, in advance of our back-breaking conference in Hawaii in March 2000.

We were very glad to have her back, and she came on board in time to help us with (and join us for) our annual meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She had to shuffle her senior finals schedule in order to travel, and actually found out she was graduating while overseas. It was her first trip to Asia, and as travel buddies we shared some unforgettable airport adventures that probably got us onto a few security "watch lists."

She graduated in May 2002 with a Bachelors degree in Public Relations from HPU, having already built an impressive resume on her way toward her degree (with honors). Smartly, she doesn't take any PR flak from this lapsed Journalism graduate. Especially since she's paid her dues as a staff writer for Kalamalama, the HPU student newspaper, and as a contributing writer at Oahu Island News.

She stuck with us as a summer intern while hunting for a real job (notably filling in while I was out of the office when Zac was born), but found her prospects in Honolulu less than inspiring. After contributing what she could to Lacene's senate bid, she left us and Hawaii in September 2002 for greener professional pastures in Boston.
