Chinese cultural groups from all over the state and the world converged on Ala Moana Beach Park on Aug. 13 to participate in the annual Dragon Boat Races, wherein teams paddle enormous (and heavy) carved wooden boats along shore in a race to capture their flag. Interesting to watch, but it would be even more interesting to know more about the race. Is it a race mostly for fun, or is it prestigeous with the teams training for months for the event?
