Upgrade

My old friend Lacene finally upgrades her laptop (Windows 98 just wasn't
cutting it anymore). Why the Sony Vaio FJ series? It's Oprah approved!

Hilo

The Hilo airport has converted its waiting area to a comfy lounge, and
moved all gate-type stuff upstairs to the jetway area.

Last stop as night falls, Rainbow Falls. As we headed for the airport,
Katie starts to sniffle. "I don't want to leave," she sobs. Jen soon joins
her. "Me too," I say, as misty rain starts to fall. Or maybe I'm a little
misty-eyed, as well.

All the new construction at UH Hilo is incredible. The University Park area
is exploding with astronomy and science facilities (Smithsonian, Subaru,
Gemini, etc.). This building, apparently just nearing completion, took our
breath away. Take that, UH Manoa!

Dinner at a place called 1 Plus 1 Diner near the Hilo Walmart. This one
young girl was basically waitressing the whole place (two other ladies were
busy pretending to be busy and flapping their gums), the poor dear. We
tipped well but I doubt she was the one to pocket the cash.

Oooh... my wife is going to be so happy to see me! No interisland hop to
Maui is complete without a stop at Krispy Kreme, conveniently located on
the way to the airport (with a drive thru window, too).

My first trip ever to Maui! Almost unthinkable, since I've lived one island

there a few hours, and will see mostly the inside of a meeting room.
