An Introduction Journalize is an alternative "crit list" for online diary and journal authors. Members provide feedback to each other on all aspects of web journalkeeping including design, usability and navigation, writing style, tone, and organization. There is no formal schedule or strict enforcement of participation. The mailing list is open and unmoderated. List managers only provide minimal guidance, instead depending on list members to participate regularly and responsibly. Our model is simple. If you want a crit, write a crit. If you receive a crit from the list, contribute one for someone else. (As a rule-of-thumb, commit yourself to contributing at least two crits if you're joining to receive crits.) Journalize depends on cooperation a list full of eager patients but no willing doctors is useless. At present, Journalize is facilitated via the occasional Journalize Review, which lists journals awaiting crits, prods diarists in "crit debt" (those who've received crits but have yet to contribute one), and basically lists current participants and their received-to-submitted stats. The report lists sites and participants in the order in which they jumped into the fray. You can lurk, if you like. You can also contribute crits without offering up your own site. The only non-negotiable requirement is professional and constructive participation. Personal attacks, flames, and other abuse will not be tolerated. |
