The Baby Pool

When will our son finally be born? Your guess is as good as ours. So... why not share it?

Since I had pretty good luck picking the moment when Dr. Scott ultimately met little Sun Su, I figured it couldn't hurt for me to now turn to you, cherished reader, for guidance on our imminent arrival. By my estimates, like-minded websurfers with good taste are at least ten times more reliable than tea leaves or Miss Cleo.

So. Tell me. When will Katie's little brother make his much-anticipated debut?

Comment below. Give us a date and time (and for simplicity's sake, let's just assume Hawaii Standard Time). Whoever is closest without going over will win... win... something.* Whether it's a special CD or some random piece of technology from my collection or a special tropical treat from paradise, I'm not sure. But I'll let you pick.

For extra super mega bonus points, also pick what you think we'll ultimately name him. I promise, I honestly have no idea what it'll be anymore. Lord help me. Choose from:

  • Iain
  • Zachary
  • Kieran
  • Aidan
  • Dylan
  • Nicholas
  • Aaron
  • None of the above.

Of course, all the background you need can be found in this journal, but to summarize, Jen's due date was originally May 28, but migrated slowly to June 1, where it has been — officially — for the last two months. (I swore up and down it was really mid-May. Shows what I know.) Two weeks ago she was one centimeter dilated, and last week she was at two centimeters. Jen has had frequent, and occasionally strong, contractions for quite some time now, but apart from a false-alarm trip to the ER last Monday, no "real" signs of labor yet...

Winner to be announced — obviously — at the same time as The Announcement. Everyone, of course, will win my undying love and devotion (even though many of you have that already).

* Members of the Ozawa household not eligible to participate. This means you, Jen.

ah, the baby pool! /me whips out her calendar . . . Friday, May 31, 10:20am. Hopefully it will be soon so Jen doesn't have to lug this belly around for much longer! And for the extra mega points - Nicholas.

I know nada of such matters, so I'm going to pick a random time. Saturday, June 1, 1:37 a.m. My vote is still with Iain.
NemesisVex (May 28, 2002 10:20 PM)

Oohh! I want to play! How about...June 3rd at 12:23 p.m. And his name will be...Zachary.
Wendy (May 28, 2002 10:26 PM)

I'm going for May 31 but I think he's going to arrive really early, in the 1-2am area. I like Dylan Iain or Kieran Zachary. My favorite single name has got to be Iain. So unique.
Starr (May 29, 2002 4:03 AM)

My guess: May 30, 10:17 AM. And I vote Iain, also.
Adrith (May 29, 2002 4:06 AM)

June 4, 2002 12:27pm. (Of course, I just bucked the voices in my head. They told me to put June 1, 2002. Same time though. But I rebel against my psychicness! Bwhaha!) Oh and Zachary Zachary Zachary!
Jolene (May 29, 2002 5:06 AM)

Hrm... I am also completely ignorant in the ways of childbirthing things, so I think I'll go with what I did when I was born, and be a wee bit late. I'm saying Sunday, June 2nd, 11:40 AM. And I'm picking Iain.
meri (May 29, 2002 6:16 AM)

Hmmm...no se nada. When I was born, my mom's OBGYN didn't pinpoint a date...she was only promised "late July" (my B-day is July 29, BTW). So I'll go with my great-grandma's birthdate and my own birthtime...June 1, 2002; 7:30 a.m. And I'll throw my vote to Iain. Good luck.
Keith (May 29, 2002 7:37 AM)

I vote for Iain and I KNOW that Jen will give birth on June 2 at 8:30 a.m. HST.
Joy (May 29, 2002 9:04 AM)

June 2, 3:39 a.m. Kieran. Just because.
lemur (May 29, 2002 9:54 AM)

June 1, 2:01AM. Iain.
Sun (May 29, 2002 12:54 PM)

My guess is May 30 at 1:15 AM I like the name Zachary.
Carol (May 29, 2002 1:02 PM)

...And it shall come to pass that June 4, 4:29am shall be the Time of the Coming unto the world the next member of the clan, naked and screaming, and His name shall be Dylan (for reasons known only to the prognosticator)... -From "The Gelfling Speaks: Previews of Coming Attractions for the Next Few Millenia"
Lusus Naturae (May 29, 2002 2:05 PM)

June 5, 12:34 a.m. I just like the way the numbers look. I only hope Jen's not 13 days overdue like I was. UGH. Go with Zachary. Pamela Anderson named one of her kids Dylan, didn't she? Blah.
Denise (May 29, 2002 3:35 PM)

Well...since I really could use you and Jen as Extras in a film on June 2, between 10:00am and 1:00pm...I predict Iain Zachary will enter the world on June 2, between 10:00am and 1:00pm! BTW...my Calabash Tutu hormones are raging! I can't wait to meet this little guy! Push, Jen. PUSH!!!
Tutu Sue (May 29, 2002 4:01 PM)

Tuta Sue, call us ASAP or email the details! I wanna be an extra!
Jen (May 29, 2002 4:51 PM)

Check: http://www.reelserviceshawaii.com/extra/ That goes for any of you on Oahu who might be interested! Ah jeez...I've never spammed a blog before!!
Tutu Sue (May 29, 2002 5:58 PM)

May 31,2002 12am. Iain. But my favorite is Nicholas but with the French pronunciation ni-koh-lah.
Lisa (May 29, 2002 6:28 PM)

June 3 at 5:03pm, the same as my son Jon! Iain Aidan...Love all those vowels!!
Susan B. (May 29, 2002 7:45 PM)

You do realize, Ryan, that naming your kid Aidan, Iain or Kieran will doom your child to unmentionable taunting which will lead him to a life of serial killing unless he becomes one of those annoying supermodels with long hair, one name and an accent. Call a spade a spade -- name the kid Bentley -- 'cause that's about what you're gonna be spending on him. Anyhoo, that's my two cents.
Wayne Akiyama (May 29, 2002 11:25 PM)

I'll go with 6/3 (my daughter's BD) at 10:57 a.m. and (although I like Zachary) Iain. Hope your labor is as quick and painless as possible, Jen!!!
ali (May 29, 2002 11:33 PM)

I say Aaron. Aaron, Aaron, Aaron. It has the least amount of tease-ability. Remember, on the playground kids can be really cruel. Think: Tacky-Zacky, Dillweed-Dylan, Jolly old St. Nicholas. And Iain, Kieran, and Aidan are just plain weird (and brings up the question "ru morf").
Aunt Jemima (May 30, 2002 10:01 AM)

I like Aaron best, but I think he'll surprise you with the name, so I'm going with None of the Above. I'm going to guess noon June 1.
Lisa (May 30, 2002 1:37 PM)

June 2 at 1:11 a.m. because babies like the middle of the night thing, at least mine did. Name will be Iain.
Dj (May 31, 2002 11:40 AM)

Both my kids came on due date-- so I'm going to go with June 1, sometime around 8 a.m. I'd go with Aaron for the name, just because Aaron is my brother's name. And please, oh, please, don't force yet another Zach onto the world. (;
Stacee (May 31, 2002 12:28 PM)

Dang, looks like I'm out! Hang in there, Jen; he's got to come out sometime!
Starr (May 31, 2002 3:54 PM)

june 2 1:14 am Aaron
melissa (May 31, 2002 6:28 PM)

Coming in late to the Baby Pool, and for good reason (I laugh at those of you who guessed anytime between last night and now - HA!) I say June 1st, 7:30 PM, and his name is Dylan because I love that name. (As opposed to Aaron and Zachary, which irritates me the same way that, ahem, Nicholas, ahem, irritates Ryan.) Heck, at least you can name him after a great poet, right? Hang in there now, and take care!
Stella (June 1, 2002 12:33 PM)

Zachary, Sunday, 2 June, 13:52.
Jade (June 1, 2002 11:51 PM)

4 June, 22:04, Dylan
cari (June 3, 2002 7:52 AM)
